Graphic Design Studio Completes Grant Selection Process

August 17, 2007

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina – Fifth Letter, a graphic design studio focusing on nonprofits, publishing, educational institutions, and emerging businesses, announces the selection of two nonprofit organizations receiving pro bono assistance via our first annual Design Grant Program.

Smart Start of Forsyth County and Crisis Control Ministry were chosen from a pool of fifteen applicants by a panel of local area business, education, and nonprofit leaders. Decisions were made based on the programs’ overall community benefit and impact. Fifth Letter will be creating printed materials for Crisis Control Ministry’s pharmacy and redesigning Smart Start’s website.

“Crisis Control Ministry, and in particular our free pharmacy operation, is thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Fifth Letter,” says Mike Foster, Crisis Control Ministry’s Director of Development. “For our organization, collaboration has always been at the center of successful projects. With Fifth Letter’s knowledge of and appreciation for the nonprofit community, Crisis Control eagerly looks forward to how this new pharmacy campaign will positively impact many of our neighbors in need.”

Natasha Gore, Community Education Coordinator for Smart Start of Forsyth County, shares a similar sentiment. “We are excited to have the opportunity to work with a firm that has nonprofit experience. Our website needs to be able to reach parents and teachers in a user-friendly way and we’re confident that Fifth Letter will be able to design a site with that in mind.”

“We are delighted to be working with two well-respected nonprofits in Winston-Salem,” says Elliot Strunk, Fifth Letter’s founder and Creative Director. “Our grant committee members showed great diligence and commitment when making their decisions. We look forward to offering creative solutions to organizations that help individuals and families in our community through medical assistance and early childhood education.”

The committee was composed of Margaret Collins of the Piedmont Triad Partnership, LaShonda Hairston of the Wake Forest School of Divinity, Chris McLaughlin of Knowledge 2 Work at Wake Forest University, Andrea Rice of SolidSpace, Jeff Smith of Smitty’s Notes, and Jim Toole of MBA Actuaries.

The award of $10,000 in donated design time will be split equally between the two winning organizations.
