Graphic Design Studio Creates Neighborhood Logo

August 27, 2007

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina – Fifth Letter, a graphic design studio focusing on nonprofits, publishing, educational institutions, and emerging businesses, has designed a logo for the Lockland Park Neighborhood Association.

Lockland Park is an enclave that is part of Ardmore, an historic neighborhood on the outskirts of downtown Winston-Salem next to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, the largest employer in the city. The centerpiece of the neighborhood is a green space that provides playground equipment and a picnic shelter, allowing plenty of opportunity for new residents and their families to meet longtime neighbors and learn more about the city. We took a cue from a project developed by the mayor’s office in Chicago of the late 1990s to brand different ethnic areas of the city to help instill a sense of civic pride.

“We just wanted to develop a sense of community for the Lockland Park area, and also create an identity,” says Steve Brown, one of the residents spearheading the project.

“Working on an identity for the Lockland Park neighborhood has been an interesting and rewarding challenge,” says Elliot Strunk, Fifth Letter’s founder and Creative Director. “As a resident of the area myself, I’m excited to see my neighbors take ownership of the logo and utilize it in interesting and productive ways.”
