Graphic Design Studio Offers Grant to Nonprofits for Third Year

April 21, 2009

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina – Fifth Letter, a graphic design studio focusing on nonprofits, publishing, educational institutions, and emerging businesses, is continuing its grant program for area nonprofit organizations for a third year.

Applications from registered 501c(3) oganizations in the Triad area will be accepted until 5:00 pm on May 15, and materials are available online beginning today. Eligible counties for participation include Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Randolph, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin.

In addition to widening the geographic scope of the program, we’re going to be working with Sappi Fine Paper’s “Ideas that Matter” initiative. Now in it’s tenth year, Sappi created a grant program aimed at enabling designers to more easily partner with the charitable activities they care about most. But we will need to apply for the grant ourselves; there are no guarantees. Therefore, we’re going to invite the top three applications to pitch us. Explain why your organization is the one Fifth Letter should partner with.

“We began Ideas that Matter a decade ago with the intent of helping creative people who donate their time and talents,” says Doug Clark, Commercial Market Manager for Sappi. “With our program, we work to help designers offset some of the costs incurred with materials for worthy organizations.”

“Nonprofits often come to us for help with great ideas and energy but nominal financial resources to implement them,” says Elliot Strunk, founder and Creative Director. “Since our grant program’s debut two years ago, we have helped four deserving organizations take their branding and promotional efforts from concept to reality in creative and strategic ways. We appreciate the opportunity to expand our impact this year.”

In addition to traditional design and marketing services, Fifth Letter provides focused strategic planning to help clients win and retain more business. This enables effective communication when clients consider projects which are wide-ranging coordinated efforts that may span multiple media.

Elliot Strunk, founder and Creative Director of Fifth Letter, has years of experience working with a diverse list of clients. Since beginning Fifth Letter, his nonprofit client history has included, among others, 88.5 WFDD, Associated Artists, Downtown Middle School, The Center for Design Innovation, Family Services, Inc., Forsyth Jail and Prison Ministries, Habitat for Humanity, Lockland Park Neighborhood Association, Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), Pediatric Community Alliance, the Piedmont Triad Partnership, Renaissance Theatre Company, Southeastern Center for Contemporary Arts (SECCA), the Thomas S. Kenan Institute for the Arts, Open Dream Ensemble, Twin City Track Club, the Winston-Salem Recreation and Parks Department, and the Winston-Salem Transit Authority (WSTA).
