Mentoring and Outreach

According to an article in the August, 2005 issue of Fast Company, “...studies have repeatedly demonstrated that mentoring is the single most valuable ingredient in a successful career for both men and women.”

We couldn’t agree more.

Internships

With our internship program, we seek to create a framework to help students understand what skills are necessary to enter into and succeed in graphic design and related professions. Working in a design office will expose students to a professional work environment and enable them to understand the similarities to and differences of a graphic design studio versus other related and unrelated professions. Our ultimate goal is to help our interns make informed career choices and walk away with an increased awareness and understanding of graphic design whether they choose to enter the field or not.

Interns will work on the Macintosh platform using layout, image editing, illustration, and multimedia programs, learn how these applications work together to create a tangible solution to a problem, and interface with vendors to create a finished piece for their portfolio.

Nonprofit Grant Program

Each year we offer grant(s) to nonprofit group(s) that need a springboard when it comes to getting their marketing initiatives off the ground. Our challenge-based grants are rewarded based upon community need, overall community benefit, and project feasibility.

Professional Affiliations

Fifth Letter is also involved with AIGA (The American Institute of Graphic Arts) to provide professional networking opportunities through their events. This allows students to become familiar with other designers in their area, learn about the variety of career options within the design field, and seek additional mentoring opportunities.

Business Community Outreach

If you are a business person curious about graphic design and how it can help your company or organization, feel free to give us a call. We can explain the process to you and cite examples of businesses that have benefited directly through actively participating in and nurturing design.

If you have a group or class and would like a presentation about the design process, let us know so that an initial phone call or meeting can be arranged to discuss your specific needs.

Please fill out and return our contact form and we will be in touch. Please note that incomplete forms will not be considered.
